Agape Groups  |  Sunday Coffee HourBoyz and Girlz in the Hood  |  Other Fellowship Activities

We often want to know each other on a deeper, more personal basis than casual conversations following services. With this intention we have formed what we call agape groups. As you may know, agape is the Greek word for that particular kind of love that flows between God and humankind, and agape feasts were the way in which the early Christians celebrated the Eucharist.

The agape groups generally consist of ten to twelve people, singles and couples alike. Each group meets for one year, typically once a month for a meal together. Members take turns hosting the get-together, either at home or at a local restaurant. At the beginning of each year, the groups are reorganized.

To participate, contact: Mary Burns.

After each of the services on Sunday morning, members of the congregation gather to share coffee and cookies. This is a very special time when we greet old friends and meet new ones. We ask that everyone pick up their nametag and wear it at coffee hour so that newcomers (and not-so-newcomers) can easily identify who you are.

Members volunteer to host the Sunday coffee hour. Hosting simply means setting up the coffee pots and putting out the cups (which can be done on Saturday) providing something to munch on, and cleaning up afterward. Nothing elaborate, just something to enhance our time of fellowship and conversation. To sign up or for more information, call the office, 575-758-2790.

Skiers enjoy the slopes during an outing, St. James Church, Taos, NM

Our parish family is an active one. Working and playing together helps to unite us in our common goal of unity with God and with each other.

The purpose of our fellowship activities is to enjoy the company of our friends and neighbors in this beautiful area and to have the opportunity to meet and get to know newcomers.

Hikers enjoy an outing, St. James Church, Taos, NMOutdoor events are designed to include a wide spectrum of interests. Summer outings often include fishing, hiking, mountain bike rides, kayak and river trips, painting, and photography, typically combined with lunch. In the winter we might include downhill or back-country skiing, snowshoeing, or a fireside chat Getting ready to fly-fish during an outing, St. James Church, Taosbefore an early potluck dinner. Trips are planned for a range of fitness levels and abilities. Click here for the 2014 schedule of outings (not available at this time).

During the year we find other excuses to get together. For example, a potluck Thanksgiving dinner, or the Fourth of July or Labor Day picnics. On Fat Tuesday (the day before Ash Wednesday) we celebrate a traditional Mardi Gras. We’ve even had Mad Hatter tea parties and classy wine tastings. And a regular Tai Chi class brings people together for healthful activity aimed at staying strong, flexible, and focused. Nothing is out of the question when there is good fellowship involved.

Our gatherings are important to us. Even after Sunday services, when we gather for coffee and refreshments, many people make plans for brunch together. There is usually a group picking a local restaurant where the good conversation can continue.
