Serving the Community

Approximately one-third of our annual operating expenses are now devoted to a very important outreach ministry. Taos County is a financially diverse county, and there are many people here who need help meeting financial obligations in times of trouble. Many also need help putting food on the table. We believe that these are areas where we can truly be of assistance to people in need.

We support our outreach activities through various means of raising funds. First, our parishioners provide generous support, through donations to designated funds for the different programs. Second, we have two rummage sales each year and a holiday bazaar; all three events raise money to help keep the outreach funds healthy. In 2008, we held our first annual “Empty Bowls” event to raise funds for the Food Pantry, our largest outreach program. This event is not only a successful fundraiser for an important outreach program; it's loads of fun.

Opportunities to Serve

Here is a listing of the many ways you can use your talent and experience at St. James.

Outreach Volunteers

Our outreach programs are diverse and deep. And volunteers are the key to the success of these programs, which reach into the community to serve needs for food, emergency assistance, prescription support, gifts for foster kids, homelessness, domestic abuse. Our music education program supplants the shrinking offerings at community schools and expensive private programs. If you want to help, there is a spot for you.
